Back in 1971 Staurt Allen Roosa, a NASA astronaut,
was choosen to carry out the mission on board of the
Apollo 14. During this mission all the austronauts were
given the opportunity to bring something from earth
with them and Roosa decided to take 500 seeds from
five diferent species of trees (Loblolly Pine, Sycamore,
Sweetgum, Redwood and Douglas). Five years later
these seeds were planted all over the United States of
America and named “Moon Trees”.
In October 2011 a second generation of Loblolly Pine
were planted at the ‘FOAM13 Pineta Park’ of the
Astronomical Observatory in Tradate, Italy.
